South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has completed the acquisition of construction equipment maker Doosan Infracore and is speeding up a post-merger integration process, with new appointments in key positions of the company.

The machinery company, renamed Hyundai Doosan Infracore, had five executives who moved from affiliates of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group as of the end of September. It is likely that they have been appointed to their new roles shortly after the deal closed.

It is notable that three managing directors of them – Lee Jong-yun, Lee Yun-seok and Kim Gi-hyeong – have filled the company’s key positions. They are all considered key figures to lead the heavy industry conglomerate’s future growth.

Lee Jong-yun, born in 1974, serves as treasurer at the company’s treasury team, which has four executives including him. Before moving to Hyundai Doosan Infracore, he led the finance team of Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Hyundai Heavy’s shipbuilding holding company.

Lee Yun-seok, also born in 1974, is responsible for strategic and digital initiatives. He is considered one of the next leaders of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group under Chung Ki-sun, the conglomerate’s heir-apparent and vice president of Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings. Lee formerly held a senior position at the holding company.

Within the conglomerate, Lee Yun-seok also serves as an inside director of Hyundai Future Partners, the investment arm of Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings. In the new role, he will be in charge of matters related to the company’s corporate culture and work to communicate the conglomerate’s core values to employees.

Kim Gi-hyeong, born in 1972, serves as human resources head. He formerly led the business support team at Hyundai Chemical, a subsidiary of the conglomerate’s energy arm Hyundai Oil Bank.

The number of the company’s executives has slightly reduced compared to before the acquisition, with almost 10 executives including former chief financial officer Seok-beom Koh reportedly leaving the company.

Sohn Dong-youn continues to serve as the company’s president and chief executive officer, despite anticipation of a new appointment to the position, as Hyundai Heavy puts the priority on the organization’s stability. Sohn has been in the top role since 2015.

At the same time, the conglomerate appointed president Cho Young-chul, one of the company’s five new executives, as an inside director of the company’s board. Cho also serves as president of Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and co-chief executive of Hyundai Genuine, the conglomerate’s intermediate holding company for the construction and equipment business.
